Dentures or false teeth as known by many are a removable dental prosthesis that is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. There are many reasons why one would lose their natural set of teeth. It could be because of tooth decay, periodontal or gum disease or injury or it could also be an inborn abnormality. Nothing could ever replace our natural teeth and once lost, you can never have it back. Solutions such as dentures, implants and mini-implants are created to answer the needs to have a set of teeth again even if it is just an artificial set of teeth. One of the biggest benefits of having a denture is the ability to chew the food better or mastication. This is the process by which food is crushed and ground by the teeth. It is process that could be hard to achieve if you don’t have teeth at all. We always hear our mom say to always chew our food very well and they say that with a good reason. Experts would say that you are able to absorb nutrients better if the food is chewed better. Plus the fact that some food taste better and you can enjoy the value of the food with chewing. Another benefit of wearing dentures is the aesthetic value it can bring. When we lose our teeth, we also lose the support for the lips and cheeks as well as it gives a collapsed appearance on our facial features. This will make us look old. Wearing a denture has that effect of restoring a natural facial appearance. In fact some cosmetic dentists can instantly give you a face lift effect with just a good denture. This can make you look younger without resulting to injury. This also brings us to the next benefit of having a denture and that is self confidence and self esteem. Many are ashamed to smile because they don’t have teeth to show. Some may have one but it may not as appealing as it used to be and would make them not want to smile. Having bad looking teeth or no teeth at all can take a toll on a person’s self confidence and may lower down their self esteem. Psychologically, this is not good and would even give stress to the person involved. If extremely felt, there is a tendency that the person would withdraw from the society. Having the perfect set of dentures could change all that and give you the much needed self confidence and could even boost your self esteem. Lastly, dentures can also help you improve your phonetics. It will help you pronounce and speak better. Some phonetically inclined sounds are dependent on the presence of teeth. Some even have pronunciations defects because of the loss of teeth on certain areas of the mouth. This can be avoided with the use of a denture. Pronouncing words better makes you a great speaker but with a set of denture, it can also give you a great smile.
