Normally, a battery cell will bear an electric charge just for a limited time. It becomes somehow difficult when you can’t tell the extent to which the charge can go. In the effort to determine the amount of power that is left in a battery; a battery tester is the right instrument to be used. This device comes in a variety of styles. The brand and style will ultimately depend on the type of battery that is being tested. Some backup systems already have battery analysis instrumentation built into the system. Although designed to be efficient and effective at determining the capacity at present state of charge; these applications rarely produce reliable results. Furthermore, they rely heavily on string analysis allowing one weak link to damage the rest of the string. If your need for a battery tester is for testing household batteries, then you may need to get a spring loaded model that is capable of testing any type of household battery. This would include 9V, AA/AAA, button cell and others. When you are ready to start carrying out the battery testing; check the tester to ensure that you are making proper placement of the positive and negative side of the battery as indicated on the tester. The tester would usually have markings to indicate the positive (+) and negative (–) side. Attach the testing clips accordingly to the battery to begin the testing cycle. Normally, a good battery would light the entire display or move the pin to the farthest side in order to show a full charge; this is how you read the test. The way to detect a dead battery is when the battery lights half or even less of the display or get the pin moved just a little. There might be different indications depending on the battery tester and how the manufacturer fashioned it. After testing, collect the dead batteries into a plastic bag and take them to an electronic shop or a local home improvement store where the recycling process can be carried out. It is important to know that batteries are not to be disposed with household trash. Never throw batteries into the trash, take them to a place where they can be appropriately disposed of. To ensure that batteries are not stored in such a way that they would be touching each other; there are special storage units for batteries. It is recommended that this storage device be exclusively used in storing your batteries for better protection and storage. Battery testing is the best way to determine the charge of your battery. Be sure to ensure that you determine what solution you will need a tester for before making your purchase.
